ABOUT THE WINERY
A fourth generation winemaking family named their winery after the great grandfather Constantino, “Tantin” was his nickname in the local Piemonte dialect. Their goal, given the limited number of bottles produced, is quality, starting fromt he care of the vineyards to the cellar, they combine tradition and innovation for more than 150 years. The grapes have only come from their vineyards since the 1800’s. Two brothers from the fourth generation, Andrea and Marco Venturino, now make the family wines. Native and planted cover crops thrive, no herbicides or pesticides are used.
THE VINEYARDS
The 4 ha of vineyards are located in Calosso, in Asti. Some of the original vines planted by Tantin continue to yield fruit at 70 plus years of age. All vineyard work is done by hand by the family. Native and planted cover crops thrive and no herbicides or pesticides. Rows are ploughed periodically to recharge the soil. The vineyard and winery are certified organic since 2001 and solar panels were installed in 2010. One pass is made between veraison and harvest to eliminate uneven ripening clusters and to focus the vine’s energy on the best clusters.

WINEMAKING PHILOSOPHY
Since 2001 all Tantin wine are certified organic. The winery itself largely solar powered. The harvested fruit is gently pressed with a traditional wooden basket. Certain lots are fermented in conical shaped wooden tank for the sake of natural micro-oxygenation and lees suspension. There are two aging cellars. Tantin’s original cellar under the old farmhouse which includes cave vaults dug into the volcanic tuffa. The modern cellar is partially under the hillside or the sake of temperature control and a smaller ecological footprint. All wines are bottled without fining and are vegan friendly
