ABOUT THE WINERY

Vineyards have been farmed since the Greeks colonized the lower Italian peninsula. Third generation vintner Antonio de Quarto is dedicated farming that respects nature and vintification without chemistry. Natural wine growing and making, they believe this will provide wholesome wines that express the authentic flavors given naturally by the terrior. No chemicals. No additions. No adjustments. No filtering.

THE VINEYARDS

There are 20 hectares of vineyards located near the Ionian sea. Located 25 km east of Taranto, in the municipality of Lizzano. This is a temperate, breezy region strongly suited to viticulture since the times of Magna Graecia. The high density of plants per hectare, the Apulian sapling-trained vineyards, volcanic and calcareous soils, regular sunshine to ripen the grapes, very low yields, the careful timed harvests by hand-picked grapes create the opportunity for the production of high-quality wines. The aspiration is for the sense of place to speak clearly. Native flora in and among the vines is allowed grow – there is no weeding or plowing between vines.

WINEMAKING PHILOSOPHY

The winery is located in an ancient stone wine cellar that suggests Antonio’s desire to return to preindustrial methods. They only produce wine from their own grapes grown in their own vineyards. With great respect for nature, the vineyards and wines are DOP and IGP and organic European Certified. No synthetic chemicals are anywhere in the vineyards. The wines are vinified spontaneously with native yeasts and without the use of additives, enzymes or sugar. No micro oxygenation nor reverse osmosis filtering is employed. These are natural wines made with the least human and technological intervention possible .
